With Ubuntu, is easy. No need to install anything, no program. All you have to do is:
1. Enter your firefox youtube
2. Choose the video you want to record
3. Let play the entire video in your firefox
4. When you are finished playing, go with your
nautilus
to the directory / tmp . There you will find the video. Just copy it from there and paste it into your home 
, when you close the page of youtube, you'll be automatically deleted in the temporal video made in / tmp 
, but you've already "backed up" your home ; )
Easy, right? Great
